"Margin 35" on Canon Pro 9000/9500

There are lots of questions about the phenomenon known as "Margin 35" on Canon Pro 9000 and Pro 9500 printers. Basically, when you choose any of the fine art media settings on these printers, the margins are locked at specific minimums. The important part is that the leading and trailing edge margins are set in stone at 35mm (1.37"). The logical reason for this setting is that Canon is worried about head strikes on thick media which can curl upward a bit under ink load.

The discussions online have focused on workarounds to fix the problem. The only real useful solution we can find is to use the Matte Paper media setting with fine art papers as it does not have margin restrictions.

Red River Paper uses this setting for profile production with Aurora Fine Art. If you are using another fine art paper, it may make sense to have a custom profile made using the Matte Paper setting.

Epson R1900 Announced in the UK

While Epson USA and Epson UK are indeed different companies, it is possible that this printer under another number will make it here in the near future.

Our opinion: The R1800 was/is one of the better inkjet printers ever made. Speed, reliability, color gamut, print life - the printer has it all.

Polar Papers Update

We have word that Arctic Polar Gloss and Premium Polar Satin are in transit and should be back in stock soon.

So what happened with this paper you ask? Its certainly unlike us to be out of a popular product long. A few forces came together to cause the shortage:

1) The mill where these papers are made shut down for maintenance in August. Like any large facility, it takes some time to bring those systems back online. That shut down slowed our pending order.

2) Demand. Since the Konica mill (a huge state of the art facility) shut down in late 2006, world demand for microporous papers has been shifted to the remaining mills. This causes a squeeze on inventory and shipping schedules.

What are we doing about it? Red River has already placed our next major order for Polar papers. We are doing everything possible to prevent shortages in the future.

Thank you for your patience.
